Discovering a Spring Scent

Pinrose Gilded Fox | styled her life

I’ve always been–and if we’re being honest will always be–a shea butter, coconut oil kinda girl. There are few things that are as versatile and get the job done, whatever the job is, like these two beauty staples. On any given day, you would most likely find me sans body spray, perfume, or fragrance mist, instead opting to use only my faithful butters and go. But as of late, I’ve been finding myself noticing fragrances and scents more often and decided it was time I added a few to my beauty collection.

As a recovering product junkie (on a good day), I wanted to make sure I approached my new search for the perfect spring scents with intention. So I spent a ridiculous amount of time sampling, sniffing, and figuring out which notes and fragrances I was naturally drawn to. For spring, I found myself gravitating towards those scents that were floral and fruity which made it super easy to find my every day fragrance. Not to mention I already had something in mind. But for my night scent, I wanted something a little sexier. Something with a little spice.

Current Obsession: Mineral Fusion 3-in-1 Color Stick in Magnetic

Mineral Fusion 3-in-1 Color StickMy current makeup and beauty product setup goes something like this: On my vanity, I have my current staples, favorite products, new goodies, or products I’m testing. Think favorite primer, current foundation, a few staple concealers, winter lipsticks, and other products to create my daily go to look. In my makeup drawer is organized chaos of everything else. Every now and then–read more then than now–I go through said chaos and give away, get rid of, or my personal favorite, rediscover old products. And I don’t mean old in the sense like expired. Girl that’s what the “get rid of” part is for. But I mean those things that I’ve tossed in there in lieu of making more room for new things, things tested but maybe weren’t too exciting, or things I just straight up forgot about. These things happen…right? I recently had some time to do one of those clean out sessions and I came across the Mineral Fusion 3-in-1 Color Stick in Magnetic. Queens. I think I may have just discovered illuminating brown girl gold. Why haven’t I been using this all my life?

My Simple Winter Natural Hair Routine

My Simple Natural Hair Routine

Can I be real with y’all? There have been times when I was reeaaallyy about to give this natural hair thing up. Like throw in the towel, grab me a flat iron, and be done with the whole thing. And it’s always at that point, right when I’m all the way through, someone will say “I love your hair!” or “I wish I could wear my hair like yours.” or the thing that really changes my mind “You make me want to go natural too. How did you get your hair like that?” Something about the fact that my hair–no matter how much drama she tries to put me through–inspires other women to return to natural, means I have to keep going. And growing. And sharing.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara Review

Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara

*Special thank you to Influenster and Marc Jacobs Beauty for the gift!

So…this is a sexy ass tube of mascara. That’s really the first thing that came to my mind when I pulled this Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara out of the box. I’m a sucker for packaging so I was already loving this new beauty before I even tried it out. Being the girl I am, I tossed this in my makeup bag next to my favorite YSL lipstick (Chocolate in the City) and just looked at how nice pretty they looked together. After about five minutes in admiration of it’s design I realized that if I was ever going to actually review the product, I needed to open it. In the back of my mind I was thinking “sexy or not, nothing will ever come close to my Lights, Camera, Lashes”, but you know, it’s my job to find out. For sure for sure.

3 Beauty Boutiques for the Girl Who Wants Something Different

3 Beauty Boutiques

Never the kind of girl to waste any time when it comes to beauty, it’s time to get to work on those 2016 beauty resolutions! Take that as my not so subtle way to say: I gotta go shopping. Like every good beauty blogger, my first instinct was to hit up my local Sephora and go. in. But, maybe it has something to do with my taste becoming more refined or maybe it’s my passion for discovering indie brands but, as excited as I am to go beauty shopping, I know what I’m looking for isn’t going to be found at a mainstream beauty store. These days I’m looking for something more.

I’m looking for beauty boutiques that offer something different.

2016 Beauty Resolutions

2016 Beauty Resolutions_1

Every year that I get closer to…you know…not being in my 20’s anymore, the more serious I get about my skin and beauty routines. I care more about what I’m putting on, how my skin is reacting to products, and pickier about how often I switch things up. With 2016 being my last year in my 20’s–omg cue anxiety–I am not playing any games. So just like I came up with a bunch of life and business goals, you better believe I came up with some with beauty resolutions too. 2016 will be the year of the glo’ up.

First Impression: BH Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks + Swatches

BH Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick

As if I needed another lipstick. Well at least that’s what I told Instagram when I got these beauties in the mail. But clearly, a girl can never have too many lipsticks. And with pretty much every brand having a liquid lipstick line now, you can see how necessary it was to grab a few ;-).  I haven’t picked up anything from BH Cosmetics since back in my newbie beauty blogging days but when I heard they were the next brand to release a line of liquid lipsticks I thought I would check them out. BH Cosmetics is a super affordable brand and as girl on a budget, that meant I could get three instead of one, so that’s exactly what I did.

Fro Love: As I Am Cleansing Pudding Review

As I Am Cleansing Pudding

I feel like this review biased and here’s why: My hair just likes As I Am products. There. We can really just end this here but because I’m trying to do better and actually share meaningful content that you guys can use, we’re going to do this proper. The full official review of the cleansing product, that replaced my other staple cleansing product (hey Coconut Cleansing Conditioner), that’s from the same brand, becausssseee….My hair just likes As I Am products.

You might remember a few months back I had a natural hair crisis of sorts, when I went to numerous beauty supply stores on wash day only to find my all time favorite cleansing conditioner wasn’t trying to be found that day. I wound up picking up the As I Am Cleansing Pudding and have been testing it ever since.

GRWM: Soft Brown Fall Makeup

Soft Brown Fall Makeup

Taking some time to get back into the swing of creating videos. As I’m looking forward to growing this here blog over the next year, I’m focused on giving the people what they want ;). One of my most popular posts ever was my last GRWM with me video so I created another one. Since Fall has finally decided to arrive, I created a simple fall makeup look. A cool soft brown smokey eye and a chocolate brown lip. I stuck with affordable products for the most part since and the best part of this fall makeup for sure has to be the Maybelline Nudes palette I used for my eyes. One of the best drugstore palettes out! And of course the rest of my makeup deets (in order of use) after the video.

Current Obsession: Creme Brulee Curling Delight x Alikay Naturals

Creme Brulee Curling Delight

The fro is backkk! And I’ve missed her for real. I know me and the crown have our moments but when she’s acting right, it’s all love! I’ve been wearing protective styles for monthsss simply due to time. I’ve learned over my natural hair journey that I should only do my hair when I have two things: Time and Patience. I’ve been a little short on a little of both but we’ll save that for a different day. So to save the crown some unnecessary damage, I’ve been keeping her tucked away. Moisturized, oiled, and out of sight ;-).

This past weekend I had to take Friday and Monday off–trust me I ain’t complaining, it was much needed but the way my bank account set up…..well YOU know–so I had some extra time to take care of the fro. I have a few new products to talk about but I’ll save those for another post. Today I’m talking about how I finally broke out my old curlBOX Natural and decided to try out the Creme Brulee Curling Delight by Alikay Naturals. Took down those twists and was like OOP! You can’t tell me nothing.

3 Beauty Subscription Boxes for Brown Girls

Beauty Boxes for Brown Girls

A few weeks ago I got a text from a family member asking my thoughts on a certain super popular beauty subscription box. I gave her my thoughts–and then because I’m a brown beauty advocate and brown girl enthusiast–promptly directed her to the websites of 3 beauty boxes that are owned by brown girls and tailor their products for women of color.

Brown Beauty Boxes_Cocotique11. Cocotique – this beauty subscription box was created for women of color to “simplify the search and discovery process”. Hello! How many times have you bought those must have products just to find out that umm…nah. Not on this melanin. With popular partnerships with some of my favorite brands like Milani, Shea Moisture, Cover FX, and Black Radiance this box is a must have for brown girls. They also have a blog (because you know how I feel about brands and their blogs) featuring brown beauties and bloggers with their Cocobelles and Cocobloggers series. Absolutely love it! There’s still time to get the October box if you subscribe by September 23rd. Don’t miss out!

Brown Beauty Box_WeAreOnyx1

2. We Are Onyx – “all in one beauty destination for black women” yaaasss. Their mission is to educate and empower women of color to take charge of their own beauty. This monthly box has featured products from brands like Cantu, CremeofNature and Cargo cosmetics. You can subscribe now to get 5-7 products for black girls every month.

curlBox Body

3. Curlbox Body – When I first found out that my mentor in my head Myleik was expanding her curlBox brand to bath and body products…listen the turn up was so real. I was already getting my life with the curlBox Natural and adding this new box to the mix was just like HERE! Take all my coins! But seriously, I purchased the first curlBox body and was so impressed. From mainstream faves like Carol’s Daughter, to up and coming brands like Harlem Soap (listen to me…the Spearmint and Orange soap…Just go get and thank me later). The last box from June 2015 is still on sale on the curlBox site so if you haven’t grabbed it I would go do that!

What beauty boxes are you subscribed to? Like em, Love em? Let me know!

Beauty Natural Hair

My Favorite Shampoo & Conditioner for Natural Hair

So, I’m a product junkie I am. Seriously. But it’s okay because I’m a beauty blogger and that’s part of my job. See what I did there? But in all seriousness my natural hair product shelf is growing larger everyday. If it ain’t a masque, it’s a curling cream. Same thing, different day. But, in the midst of the piles of natural hair products that surround my closet, vanity, and bathroom cabinet, sometimes a girl’s just gotta get back to basics.

ORS Shampoo and Conditioner

After taking out my crochet braids, the crown needed a wash and deep condition like you wouldn’t believe. Whatever I used, I knew it had to do the job right so I broke out my staple Creamy Aloe Shampoo and Replenishing Conditioner by ORS and was reminded AGAIN how much I LOVE these two products together. For real, I can’t even tell you how straight up amazing my hair is. Ever single time I use them.

If you’re not familiar with my natural hair journey, I have very fine kinky 4b/c hair. Yup the good stuff. I’m not even kidding. Most times the crown and I are friends, other times she needs to go figure out what she wants in life. That’s when I install a protective style like my crochet braids. I don’t really use shampoo all like that but after I take out a protective style I absolutely take the time to a shampoo cleanse and deep condition. Literally the only shampoo I use period is the ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo.

I know people can use a whole bunch of different brand products in one wash session but I find my hair likes when I use products within the same line. I always follow up an ORS shampoo session with the ORS Replenishing Conditioner. Can I just tell you that I really don’t think there is a better conditioner than this? I mean, I like other conditioners. A lot. But something about this stuff man…natural hair be flourishing.

I’ve been using ORS products for like my whole life…or since I discovered the brand “a few years ago” in college and I’ve been a fan ever since. My friends used to joke way back then that I should be a brand ambassador for them the way I used to promote their products on campus (PS ORS if you’re reading this, ya girl is available). Ahhh the good old days. So in true Tyshia fashion, if you haven’t tried this shampoo and conditioner yet…what are you waiting on!?

Even though I’m biased, tell me, what’s your favorite shampoo and conditioner? Let’s talk hair products!

Stay blessed beautiful!

Beauty Skin Care

On My Radar: Ambi Even & Clear CC+ Cream + Swatches

Ambi CC Cream 1

Happy Monday beauties! Today I’m chatting about one of my favorite brands Ambi, and their new Even & Clear CC+ Cream Even Tone & Environmental Shield. You guys already know how much I love my Ambi complexion cleansing bar so finding out that they formulated a CC cream for brown girls was LOVE! In case you didn’t know, Ambi is a skincare brand that creates cleansers and moisturizers for women of color. Obviously one of the reasons I love them!

My summer skin care regimen has been one of the main reasons I’ve been able to take it easy on the foundation but let’s not pretend that there aren’t days when I could use a little something extra. It’s always tough finding BB and CC creams for brown girls so when I received the new Ambi Even & Clear CC+ Cream*, I immediately had to try it out!

This CC cream contains argan oil, shea butter, and antioxidants to moisturize the skin. It also contains SPF–because yes the brown girls need sun protection too!–without leaving an ashy look that some SPF products tend to do. The Ambi Even & Clear CC+ Cream uses soft focus technology to even your skin tone while shielding your skin from environmental elements.

It’s available in two shades, Light/Medium and Medium/Dark. The darker shades was a perfect match for me.

Ambi CC Cream Swatches Blend

The texture is very creamy and has a nice feel to it when you apply it. I’ve worn it a few times, but you know I’ll extensively try this out before I give you guys an official review. So far though, I have no complaints!

Ambi CC Cream 2

The Ambi Even & Clear CC+ Cream is available at drugstores and beauty supply stores (where I usually grab my cleansing bar) or you can visit

What are you using for your “little something extra” in your summer skin routine?

Best Purple Lipstick Ever: Ruby Kisses Purple Affair

Best Purple Lipstick_Ruby Kisses Purple Affair

Something about purple lipstick just works for me. I’m not even the kind of girl who rocks the brightest or boldest lip colors but you give me any shade of purple, I’m like yaaaasss. I had been wanting to try the Ruby Kisses Matte Lipsticks for awhile so when I finally made way over to the beauty supply and saw Ruby Kisses Purple Affair, I immediately picked it up.

Ruby Kisses Purple Affair

The Ruby Kisses Ultra Matte Super Rich Lipstick is described as:

  • Super Rich, Brilliant And Long Lasting Color,
  • Full Coverage Color Without Leaving Lips Dry,
  • Smooth Application

The color is sooo pretty. It’s a deep blue toned purple (I haven’t been able to do the bright lipstick thing at all this summer) that goes on pretty smoothly. Even though it’s matte it doesn’t feel super dry on your lips especially if you prep beforehand, which is something you should always be doing if you’re wearing a matte lipstick. Nobody has time for dry lips at all.

Ruby Kisses Purple Affair is legit my favorite purple lipstick and it’s under $5! I almost want to cry when I stumble a product so bomb for so little coins. Just winning. You can grab all of the Ruby Kisses Ultra Matte Super Rich lipstick at your local beauty supply or online
. I’m going to wear this until my heart’s content and then I’ll be trying out a few more. Because I mean…y’all know I had to grab more than just one color ;).

What’s your favorite purple lipstick? Drop me a comment and let me know where to get it! A girl can never have too many!

Beauty Skin Care

My 3 Product Summer Skincare Routine

3 Product Skincare Routine

In my current drugstore beauty favorites I mentioned a soap that has changed the game for my skin. I realized it’s been awhile since I’ve wrote about my skincare routine. Actually it’s been since last summer. When it comes to my skin I’ve always kept it really simple. My skin–like my hair–does better with a low maintenance routine. I’ve learned to just use what works and let it be. Sometimes less is more ya know?

My current summer skincare routine is super chill. Like so chill I only use 3 products total on a daily basis. I’ve found this works for me and my skin has been thanking me for it.

I start off with the Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar that I mentioned earlier this week. I really really love this facial soap. My skin was looking so dull, just not flourishing at all. That’s no way to look in the summer. I remember using this wayyyy back when I was in college and I loved it then. I can’t even tell you why I stopped using it but when I was dealing with less than great skin, this is the first thing that came to mind. I know some people say you don’t or don’t have to clean your face twice a day but for me, in the summer, yes ma’am twice a day is mandatory. I wet my skin, lather this on, rinse with warm water and wipe any excess water off with a cool damp wash cloth. I’ve noticed such an improvement in my complexion it’s crazy.

Next up I use Shea Moisture African Black Soap Problem Skin Toner w/ Tamarind & Tea Tree Oil. Now I wouldn’t exactly say my skin is “problem”. It doesn’t give me any problems, it just could be better. But I’ve heard so much about the benefits of African Black Soap and the description on the bottle had me sold.  “Manages oil and shine without clogging pores”, “Controls shine without drying” and “Adds a matte finish to skin”? Yes, yes, and yes. I use this after cleansing my skin so yes, that’s twice a day and I have definitely seen an improvement in my oily skin. Summer is usually the worst and I can end up looking real…greasy…if I’m not careful but using this toner on a daily basis has helped, ALOT.

Finally, I end my routine with the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. This is actually the first new moisturizer I’ve used in basically forever. I have, since the beginning of time, used Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin. But a few months back, around the same time I noticed my skin looking blah, I thought maybe I’d switch it up and the Clinique moisturizer had been on my mind for awhile. I use this directly after my toner, twice daily and I really love it.  I find that it’s a little thicker than my other moisturizer but leaves my skin feeling much more hydrated, longer, and doesn’t feel as greasy. I think I’ve found my new love and I don’t plan on switching back anytime soon.

3 Product Skincare

Excuse the dark circles. No skincare in the world can make up for these long nights on the grind ;). But this is my bare skin…and Copenhagen of course!

That’s it. Three things and I’m done! What does your summer skincare routine look like?

Stay blessed beautiful!
