Current Obsession: Creme Brulee Curling Delight x Alikay Naturals

Creme Brulee Curling Delight

The fro is backkk! And I’ve missed her for real. I know me and the crown have our moments but when she’s acting right, it’s all love! I’ve been wearing protective styles for monthsss simply due to time. I’ve learned over my natural hair journey that I should only do my hair when I have two things: Time and Patience. I’ve been a little short on a little of both but we’ll save that for a different day. So to save the crown some unnecessary damage, I’ve been keeping her tucked away. Moisturized, oiled, and out of sight ;-).

This past weekend I had to take Friday and Monday off–trust me I ain’t complaining, it was much needed but the way my bank account set up…..well YOU know–so I had some extra time to take care of the fro. I have a few new products to talk about but I’ll save those for another post. Today I’m talking about how I finally broke out my old curlBOX Natural and decided to try out the Creme Brulee Curling Delight by Alikay Naturals. Took down those twists and was like OOP! You can’t tell me nothing.

My Favorite Shampoo & Conditioner for Natural Hair

So, I’m a product junkie I am. Seriously. But it’s okay because I’m a beauty blogger and that’s part of my job. See what I did there? But in all seriousness my natural hair product shelf is growing larger everyday. If it ain’t a masque, it’s a curling cream. Same thing, different day. But, in the midst of the piles of natural hair products that surround my closet, vanity, and bathroom cabinet, sometimes a girl’s just gotta get back to basics.

ORS Shampoo and Conditioner

After taking out my crochet braids, the crown needed a wash and deep condition like you wouldn’t believe. Whatever I used, I knew it had to do the job right so I broke out my staple Creamy Aloe Shampoo and Replenishing Conditioner by ORS and was reminded AGAIN how much I LOVE these two products together. For real, I can’t even tell you how straight up amazing my hair is. Ever single time I use them.

If you’re not familiar with my natural hair journey, I have very fine kinky 4b/c hair. Yup the good stuff. I’m not even kidding. Most times the crown and I are friends, other times she needs to go figure out what she wants in life. That’s when I install a protective style like my crochet braids. I don’t really use shampoo all like that but after I take out a protective style I absolutely take the time to a shampoo cleanse and deep condition. Literally the only shampoo I use period is the ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo.

I know people can use a whole bunch of different brand products in one wash session but I find my hair likes when I use products within the same line. I always follow up an ORS shampoo session with the ORS Replenishing Conditioner. Can I just tell you that I really don’t think there is a better conditioner than this? I mean, I like other conditioners. A lot. But something about this stuff man…natural hair be flourishing.

I’ve been using ORS products for like my whole life…or since I discovered the brand “a few years ago” in college and I’ve been a fan ever since. My friends used to joke way back then that I should be a brand ambassador for them the way I used to promote their products on campus (PS ORS if you’re reading this, ya girl is available). Ahhh the good old days. So in true Tyshia fashion, if you haven’t tried this shampoo and conditioner yet…what are you waiting on!?

Even though I’m biased, tell me, what’s your favorite shampoo and conditioner? Let’s talk hair products!

Stay blessed beautiful!

On My Radar: As I Am Cleansing Pudding + Hydration Elation

On My Radar_As I Am Cleansing Pudding & Hydration Elation

If you know anything about my natural hair, you know that some of my favorite products are by As I Am. I randomly discovered this brand back in when I was transitioning and looking for a cleansing conditioner and since then I’ve mentioned my beloved Coconut Co-Wash more than a few times but long story short: It’s bomb. Period. So when I ran out this past wash day and went to my local beauty supply to find they were smooth out, I was UPSET.

I don’t really do shampoo unless I need to and it took me foreverrr to find a conditioner that left my hair feeling clean. What was a girl to do?? I spent a good 15 minutes trying to figure out my life…or at the very least if there was another store close by that had the cleansing conditioner. After serious debate, I decided to just try a few new As I Am products because I mean, if the cowash (and leave in because you already know how I feel about their leave in hunny) worked well, maybe I’d have similar success with some of their other products.

First thing I grabbed was the Cleansing Pudding+ Sulfate-Free Moisturizing Cleanser. It had me at sulfate-free so even it it isn’t as magical as my cowash, at least I know it’s gentle.

As I am Cleansing Pudding

CLEANSING PUDDING+ Sulfate-Free Moisturizing Cleanser

  • Cleanses hair of residue and product build-up
  • Moisturizes as it cleanses
  • Rids scalp of excess sebum, environmental impurities and shedding scalp debris
  • Provides a soothing scalp treatment
  • Helps promote a healthy environment for hair growth.

Key Ingredients: Tangerine, Aloe Vera, Castor Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Saw Palmetto and Phytosterols   – As I Am

I still needed a conditioner so I grabbed the Hydration Elation Intensive Conditioner. My hair is chronically dry so anything with hydration in the name is good in my book.

As I Am Hydration Elation

HYDRATION ELATION Intensive Conditioner

  • Moisturizes deep within the hair shaft
  • Smooths and aligns cuticle layer
  • Strengthens weak areas and repairs split ends
  • Promotes shine
  • Infused with pure herbal ingredients that stimulate the scalp and hair roots
  • Helps promote healthy hair growth from the follicular level
  • Enhances manageability and overall hair health

Treat your hair every 2 to 3 weeks (or even more frequently, depending upon the condition of your hair and what you do to it).

Key Ingredients: Coconut, Sugar Cane, Green Tea, Apple, Lemon, Vegetable Glycerin, Shea Butter and Vitamin E  – As I Am

I’m excited to try these out and let y’all know how the crown is feeling it. I’ve tried both once and so far: YASSS. But I’ll leave it at that and look out for my full review.

Does anyone else have that one brand of products that your hair just seems to vibe with?

Stay Blessed Beautiful!

On My Radar: Dark and Lovely Au Naturale

Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Cover

Happy Monday beauties! How gorgeous was this weekend though? Spring is here! It’s festival season, conference season, and simply beautiful so I was out, about, and all over the city taking in all the festivities. Sunday morning I was invited to a blogger brunch hosted by Dark and Lovely at the African American Museum in Philadelphia (only my favorite place in the city!). They were in town for the Philadelphia Natural Hair Show and put together an intimate event for us bloggers to get together, eat some food, and talk about blogging, natural hair, and Dark and Lovely’s Au Naturale product line.

Unboxing! CurlBOX NATURAL

IMG_20150320_151057 (1)

{Cue dramatics} It brings me great joy and so much pleasure to announce I’ve officially received my first curlBOX. Yes it’s that serious and Yes I’m dramatic, but this has been a long time coming. I, like many of my natural haired Queens, have been eyeing this cult fave subscription box for curly girls for months. Never in time to get on the list. I always see the Instagram post an hour too late. But one unlikely Saturday morning I was up early and scrolling the gram when I saw the post that not only was there going to be a curlBOX available in a few minutes but it also was a curlBOX Natural box which is the initial one that drove me to the curlBOX site in the beginning. I logged onto the site patiently sipping my Chai and when the curlBox Natural March 2015 // Volume VII popped up…well you already know ;).

Crochet Braids Protective Style

Less on the actual styling, which next time I do these there will be a video tutorial for sure because listen! This was so easy anybody can do it. For real. If I can do it anybody can. But more so what brought me to this point in time where I had to put the crown away and do a protective style. Like immediately.

InstaNatural Argan Oil Hair Mask Review

InstaNatural Argan Oil Hair Mask Review

Sponsored by BrandBacker.  All opinions are my own.

As a natural hair enthusiast, there are few things I love more than an essential oil and a hair mask. My crown is the epitome of low maintenance and I kind of just do what I do, which you know if you’re familiar with my journey. But the one thing I do keep consistent is making sure I do a deep condition treatment weekly. I have my favorite treatments, but as a natural hair enthusiast (refer back to first sentence) I’m always excited to try new things to see how my fro reacts. So you can imagine how hype I was when I got the chance to try the InstaNatural Argan Oil Hair Mask.

One Year Natural Update

So 2015 is officially coming to a close and I just couldn’t let the year end without checking in with all my lovely natural (or natural-curious) ladies for an official update on the crown. It’s been a year and 1 month (can’t even believe I missed my natural anniversary! Time truly does fly) since I decided I was over the madness that was me transitioning and cut it allll off. And I haven’t looked back since! 2014 was the year THIS brown queen returned to natural and I’m FINALLY (so sorry for the lateness…still love me?) giving you a play by play on this fro of mines ;).

Favorite Things: Natural Hair Edition

Favorite Things Natural Hair Edition Main

TGIT! I feel like I haven’t talked about my hair here in foreverrr. Truth is, I admire you natural hair bloggers. I put so much time and energy in just getting the fro together… you want me to now blog about how I did it?? It’s not easy. So to my favorite natural hair bloggers, I appreciate you! But because I did start this journey on the blog it’s only right to give you all an update but rather than the normal regimen of what I use, and how I use it (which I will do before the month is over promise!), I thought I’d do a favorite things because I’ve given up on monthly favorites. Oh and there may or may not be a giveaway at the end ;).

Natural Hair Diaries: 6 Months Post Big Chop

Can’t believe it’s really been  6 months since my big chop and 15 months since I started this hair journey. At this point you’d think this natural thing would be second nature right? While I won’t say that I’m an expert, I have learned a thing or two. The most important lessons being: There’s always something new to learn and Accept her exactly how she is.

Of course, because it’s me, most (read all) of my favorites are beauty things. That’s just the kinda girl I am <3.
