One of the perks of being a freelance beauty writer is you get to try allll the products. The days that the mailman brings gifts are the best days. If only bright colored boxes that smelled good were the only things he brought. I haven’t written or posted about beauty personally much since moving over to this space but with summer here, a whole bunch of new goodies, and the seasonal transition of makeup products, I wanted to share some of beauty things that are in current rotation.
All About Oils
I don’t know why but my skin has been insanely dry the past couple of weeks. Especially on my arms and shoulders. It’s weird for this to happen during the summer. I’ve been using this OGX Argan Oil of Morocco In-Shower Oil on my skin after I hop out the shower and it’s been helping my skin stay moisturized and soft. The key to using this is applying on while it’s damp, not wet for the best results.
A couple weeks back Influenster sent me this Nuxe Paris Huile Prodigieuse multi-purpose dry body oil to try and I don’t why it took me so long to finally use it. The smell alone is worth it but I find it leaves my skin crazy soft and leaves a behind a nice dewy finish. I also love that this is a travel size so I can pop in my small crossbody summer purse easily.
When I first learned about the new line of products from Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture I shared the news over on the beauty blog. Now that I’ve gotten a change to use them thoroughly, I can’t get enough of the Scent and Shine Coconut Oil. Leaves my hair so soft and shiny.
All Natural Skincare
I’ve been slowly investing in more natural and organic beauty products. Especially when it comes to skincare. With my 29th birthday less than a month away, keeping my skin happy and healthy has become more of a priority for me. I’ve been loving the exfoliating food facials by BuffHer. For the summer, I picked up the Vanilla Bean Latte one for combination/oily skin as that’s the best way to describe my skin during this season.
I wish that you could smell this soap by Harlem Soap Shop. There really aren’t words to describe how good it is. I know spearmint and orange isn’t something you’d typically put together but trust me, it’s everything. I love using this soap in the morning as it’s very refreshing which is exactly what I need on these lazy summer mornings. The fact that it’s a handmade in Brooklyn so I can support an indie business is just an added bonus.
Nude Lips All Summer ’16
Even though I know summer is supposed to be all about the bright and bold lipsticks, I’m stuck on nude lips and I’m cool with that. There’s something about a fresh face and nude lips that I will always love and just a peek at my lipstick stash can confirm that. My current faves are NYX Lip Lingerie in Teddy and Nicka K True Matte in Millbrook.
