Hello April: March Reflections + The Month Ahead

Hello April

WHEW! The first quarter of 2016 is behind us and I officially survived my first quarter of self employment. I’m gonna go pass out now. Kidding. Sort of. If I could sum up the first three months of 2016 it would be with the Big Sean lyric “Blessings on blessings on blessings, look at my life man that’s lessons on lessons on lessons.” Yep. That’s about it in a nutshell. But for what it’s worth, March was the month I felt like I finally started to gain my footing…while simultaneously realizing more changes were on the horizon. Such is life.

I can’t even begin to reflect back on March without acknowledging first and foremost that I’m making it on my own. I harbored so much fear before entering this year knowing that I was uprooting my life by quitting my job. While I know it might seem like an insignificant amount of time you, to ME, to have made it three months on my own is major. I thank God always not only for the vision he’s placed on my heart, but the tools to bring it to life.

At some point during January – March I started to realize that letting go of my job wasn’t the only move I needed to make. With my newfound confidence, faith, and clarity I have learned how necessary, refreshing, and empowering it is to let go of things that no longer serve you. And at this point that was my old blog. I didn’t see this coming, like at all. I mean, the whole reason I was able to become self-employed was from the opportunities and experience I gained through my blog. But I knew there was more. So March was dedicated to rebranding and refocusing and I’m so excited to continue growing and sharing in this space.

Leaving my old blog opened up space in my mind and life to focus on what I was doing with this idea for a beauty brand that I have been sitting on for the past two years or so. I was finally ready to pour all of my passion for pretty into creating this thing that I saw in my mind. My soul sister/business partner and I spent serious time in March working on our labor of love. I’m both nervous and crazy excited to finally be bringing something to life that has existed inside my head for so long!

Entering into the second quarter of the year, I think I finally have a real sense of direction of what I’m doing “out here”. If January – March was to figuring out, April is definitely a month of action. I’m focusing on one major thing in each area of my life and am committed to taking action to accomplish my goals.

Blog: Since I’m still building this space, I’m really just focused on creating dope content this month. This blog is to share info and inspo from a modern mom’s journey to design a life she loves so that’s all I’m trying to do. I have an editorial calendar and I’m dedicated to sticking to it! If you enjoy anything you read here, you should definitely sign up for my newsletter (sign up below). I have some resources that I’m creating for fab busy women, mompreneurs, and boss ladies available for those who sign up :).

Beauty Brand: If you follow me on Twitter, you already know a bit about the brand, and if you know that than you have an idea of what it’s all about ;). This month, we’re finalizing our product line for launch! This has been a crazy, intense, journey so far and we’re just getting started but I’m excited to share more in the next couple of weeks.

Family: Preschooling man man. Seriously between blogging here, freelancing, and working on the brand, how in the world do I squeeze in homeschool preschool? By creating a lesson plan that’s how! I have a post coming in the next week (cough…with printable downloads for those on the newsletter…cough) on what preschool looks like for us. I created templates to help us stay focused and am working on a summer plan in the next couple of months.

There are a few other things on my list to accomplish but these are the big three. Here’s to new things and a hopefully not so rainy April, although if this first day is any indication….

What are your goals or plans for April?

Congratulations on making the jump. There is something so freeing yet so scary about jumping off that ledge and on those days when the money ain’t right I always remember that I have the freedom and the ability to make it right.

Can’t wait to see what you have in store for your new brand and blog!
