*Special thank you to Influenster and Marc Jacobs Beauty for the gift!
So…this is a sexy ass tube of mascara. That’s really the first thing that came to my mind when I pulled this Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara out of the box. I’m a sucker for packaging so I was already loving this new beauty before I even tried it out. Being the girl I am, I tossed this in my makeup bag next to my favorite YSL lipstick (Chocolate in the City) and just looked at how nice pretty they looked together. After about five minutes in admiration of it’s design I realized that if I was ever going to actually review the product, I needed to open it. In the back of my mind I was thinking “sexy or not, nothing will ever come close to my Lights, Camera, Lashes”, but you know, it’s my job to find out. For sure for sure.
THE MARC JACOBS BEAUTY VELVET NOIR MAJOR VOLUME MASCARA
The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara delivers big volume and length. Inspired by Marc’s mother – who used to shave fibers from black velvet ribbon and apply them to her lashes in between coats of mascara for a dramatic effect – a similar look is achieved with a cream and gel wax formula plus a curvy brush that separates and defines every lash.
Every good mascara starts and ends with the brush. You can have the most wonderful formula ever. period. But if your brush is no good, your mascara is no good. If I thought the tube was sexy, the brush was sexier. It’s a thick slightly hourglass shape with short spiky bristles. It’s pretty dense and picks up a LOT of product, especially at the top. I always go in easy on my first coat to avoid clumps so I had to slide off the excess product on the top of the tube. I like that it really separates my lashes. I get the wispy baby doll kind of look when I wear this mascara alone.
Marc Jacobs beauty describes the formula as a cream and gel wax and I’d say that’s pretty spot on. It’s thick. Very thick, but not to the point where it feels heavy or clumpy on your lashes. For me, I find it isn’t so much volumizing as it is lengthening unless you apply multiple coats. I don’t have naturally long lashes, like at all, and this mascara gives me all types of length on the first swipe. *tip: Let your mascara dry in between coats. Life. Changing.
The Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara is a solid product. It does the job better than most and if you’re a luxury beauty girl, $26 for this sexy tube is worth the purchase. Will it replace my beloved? Not on my vanity. But this is definitely the mascara that travels with me in my makeup bag. I mean, do you see how pretty it is?
Have you tried the Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara? Love it? Like it? Meh? Let me know your thoughts Queens!
