2015: A Year of Action

I’m really not sure how we’re little more than a week away from 2016 but here we are. I feel like I’m behind in writing this post, but it’s before the year is over so that has to count for something ;).

You may remember that my word for 2015 was Action. At the top of the year I had maybe 10 or so main goals I wanted to accomplish. They ranged from personal things like find a church home to business things like take freelancing to the next level. When I look at that list now that we’re at the end of the year, I’m actually a little mind blown. While I definitely fell short in a few places–more than I’d like to admit–I also accomplished A LOT. In this day to day life thing it’s so easy to overlook small victories during the journey but if 2015 has taught me anything, it’s that for real for real, as cliche as it might sound:

I’m not going to drag you through my whole goal list bit by bit but I definitely wanted to reflect back on the things that were kind of a big deal in 2015:

  1. I found a church home.
  2. The one year anniversary of a client relationship occurred in November.
  3. I quit my day job to build my business full time.

I’m focusing on these three things because pretty much every other goal was either accomplished as a necessity to achieve one of these or will be the result of me being able to achieve these goals moving forward.

FINDING A CHURCH HOME – If you haven’t gathered from my bio, Spiritual Sunday posts, or my daily twitter scriptures, I am a child of the Most High and going into this year I wanted to focus on putting Him back at the center of my life. While I’ve always prayed from time to time, read the bible, and occasionally attended my mother’s church I needed a place to call home. I had one in mind, but at the beginning of the year I lived too far from it to make it a regular trip. In August we moved about 20 minutes away and joined in the Fall. It has been so life changing for me and I’m beyond excited to continue that journey in 2016 and grow in Christ.

BUILD CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS – Y’all already know that I’ve been freelancing for awhile. In order to achieve one of my BIG goals, I knew I had to get more strategic about how I was getting clients. In 2015 I focused on building long term client relationships instead just booking one time projects or jobs (which I still have those as well). That came in the form of me being a regular monthly beauty contributor for a salon magazine (hence the photo). November marked a year! Working with them helped me realize what will be a priority as I head into the new year. More on that later ;).

I BECAME SELF EMPLOYED – So this was the biggie. I started off 2015 with a clear mission. This would be the year that I figured out a way to leave my full time job and become self employed. I had a few smaller goals in line to accomplish this one, and if I’m being 100% honest with you guys, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it. You know that long shot goal you put on your list? This was it. I mean, quitting your job is a big deal. Regardless of how many “leap from 9 -5” articles you read on it doesn’t get any less scary. But when God places such a grand vision on your heart and spirit you go. You pray, you work, and you go. That led to opportunities, opened doors, and inevitably obstacles. But God! I did it and I am so excited to see where this chapter in life will take me.

2015 was life changing. the year I discovered that if you put action behind your visions, your thoughts, your plans, and your prayers…you can achieve great things. I’d love to hear about your year. What stood out for you? What goals did you accomplish? What’s the biggest lesson you learned? Let me know in the comments Queen.

Stay Blessed Beautiful!
