Her Life: It’s Been Real 2014

Her Life_2014
It’s the last day of the year! WE MADE IT! {cue Drake music}. But for reals the year is almost over and what a year it has truly been. I’m so happy to be here entering yet another chapter of This Brown Queen and I can honestly say that THIS BLOG has been life changing. And a lot of those changes took place in 2014. While this surely was not the easiest year thus far, there is something to be said for all the amazing wonderfulness that occurred in my life. So yes, I’m joining the cool kid bloggers and posting quite possibly the millionth blog you’ve read today, chucking the deuce to 2014.

I was recently tweeting (shameless plug…FOLLOW ME! I’m social) about how when you’re actually walking the journey and caught up in the hustle and grind, you don’t fully realize how far you’ve come. That’s one of the things that’s so great about journaling, documenting, or taking time to reflect. You can REALLY see the progress that sometimes isn’t so clear in your day to day life. I had to update my bio for a recent project and when I was done I had a MOMENT. Like a “oh snap I sound decent!” {does the beyonce drunk in love dance} moment! I hadn’t even realized all that I had accomplished in the time since my last update because I was just so focused on getting ish done. In 2014 a lot of reallyyy awesome things happened. From me landing new clients to stepping out of my comfort zone completely. 2014 was the year I was FINALLY able to connect the dots. I learned how to take my passion, natural talent, and turn that into a career path. MIND. BLOWN.

BUT WHAT DID YOU LEARN?? That’s the question everyone wants to know ;). If I could sum it up it would be:

Be intentional in all your actions.

Realize that life is bigger than you.

Take care of yourself FIRST.

Never let fear stop you from doing anything.

Prayer WORKS.

As some of you know I launched my freelance business earlier in the year providing digital media services to beauty and lifestyle brands (another shameless plug…check my CONTACT page for more details on my services). I’ve been able to work on a number of awesome projects doing work that I love. I’ve even been able to land some pretty amazing ongoing clients one of which is a national beauty industry magazine! This journey has led me to do a TON of things I was either scared or completely uncomfortable doing, but those things are what helped me grow the most.

As far as my biggest accomplishment this year? It had to be at the end of the summer when I was contacted by a company that was sponsoring a conference here in Philly. They were looking for an official conference blogger but the industry was one I knew nothing about (except for a few mandatory Temple courses). It was even expressed that upper management wasn’t sure I would be able to handle the project because I was “just a fashion blogger”. Yup those were real words. (By the way, I’m totally not though but what a compliment because I admire fashion bloggers so thanks boo!) Needless to say, completely out of my zone and terrified, I totally and completely killed that project! Success!

So if one thing I know for sure that I will take with me through 2015 and beyond? Just say YES and figure the rest out as you go. Trust yourself and believe that you really won’t let YOU down.

In a nutshell, 2014 was AFFIRMING. It was rough, it wasn’t easy, but we are here. Right where we are meant to be. If you could describe 2014 in one word, what would it be??

Thanks for rocking with me all year beauties. Let’s make 2015 amazing! Stay blessed beautiful!
